The Sri Lanka Japan Business Council (SLJBC) of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce successfully convened the “Exports to Japan – Seizing the Opportunity Now: Business Forum 2026” on 29th April 2026 at the Crystal Ballroom, Hotel Taj Samudra, Colombo, bringing together senior government officials, industry leaders, and business executives to explore Sri Lanka’s export potential to Japan. The forum featured a keynote address by His Excellency Akio Isomata, Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka, who spoke on the strong bilateral ties between the two countries and encouraged local businesses to capitalise on the current trade environment. A panel discussion chaired by Mr. Nisthar Cassim, CEO of Daily FT, brought together Mr. Charitha Yattogoda (Director of Commerce, Department of Commerce), Mr. Mangala Wijesinghe (Chairman, EDB), Dr. Rohan Pallewatte (Executive Chairman, Lanka Harness Co. (Pvt) Ltd), and Mr. Sunil Wijesinha (Managing Director, BizEx Consulting (Pvt) Ltd), who shared insights on Japan’s market requirements, trade regulations, and business culture. The discussion highlighted quality standards, consistent supply chains, and relationship-driven business practices as key success factors for Sri Lankan exporters entering the Japanese market.
